Good Neighbor Award – North Dakota Association of Realtors

Kyle Olson is a Good Neighbor

No, really. He’s received the 2022 Good Neighbor Award from the North Dakota Association of Realtors at this years Realtor Convention of the Dakotas. Kyle is the type of person that makes our community a better place. He encourages people to be good neighbors and commit themselves to a cause and make an impact on those around him, which we emulate in NAR’s standards for excellence as Good Neighbors!

The NDAR Good Neighbor Award is to recognize North Dakota’s REALTORS ® for their efforts in community and charitable service in helping to make their communities a better place for all citizens.

Kyle Olson has spearheaded the growth and visibility of the Alzheimer’s Association of MN/ND Chapter in the community with his record-breaking Longest Open House and Closing for a Cure campaign but he doesn’t stop there he also helps many other organizations in our community.

Why Does he do it?

In 2003, Kyle’s father was diagnosed with short-term dementia. The disease progressed quickly into Alzheimer’s, and by 2019 Kyle had lost his dad to the disease. The experience was devastating for Kyle as he watched his father no longer recognize his own wife or home. The event inspired him to take on a challenge to raise $100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. Community support is essential to meeting his goal, and he works tirelessly to engage his community. Major local events have been The Longest Open House and The Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Kyle is getting people involved and raising awareness about this disease.

 World Record

Two years ago, Kyle started hosting an open house that lasted 60+ straight hours. This set a self-proclaimed new world record in 2021 and 2022, Kyle’s open house has been an enormous success, raising over $20,000 in the last two years. This year raising $15,660 in donations in only one weekend. In addition to an open house, there was a bean bag tournament, video gaming tournament, food trucks, and many other events. Kyle streamed the event live on social media every hour to update his followers on the

progress and share tips and information about the disease and how the Alzheimer’s Association can help you and your loved ones.

Kyle has always been a people person. He loves community events and rallies; anything where he can interact with others and make a difference. In 2017, Kyle heard about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and knew he had to get involved. Kyle quickly inspired others to join the committee and be a part of a community effort to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research. Serving as the Walk Planning

Chair for the last three years, he is full of energy and ideas. His passion continues to be contagious.

Thanks to Kyle’s efforts, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Fargo Moorhead has seen both financial growth as well as an increase in the number of volunteers and Walk participants.  To supplement the community events, in 2019 Kyle personally created #closingforacure where he donates 10% of each real estate commission check to Alzheimer’s research. Since starting, Olson has personally donated over $25,000 to the cause and brings much awareness to Alzheimer’s. This project inspires others in creative ways to give to the fundraiser.

 Other Causes

In addition to his work with the Alzheimer’s Association, Kyle has volunteered his time and resources to other charitable organizations. He is an active trustee of the Home Builder Cares Foundation and chair of the fundraising committee helping to support workforce development in the housing trades and career. He is an active and passionate member of the Essentia Health Foundation which works to

provide extra warmth and thoughtfulness to patients’ care. His dedication to volunteering makes the community a better place. It is clear that Olson cares deeply about Finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and making a difference in the world.
